Android 4.4.4 KitKat is now officially rolling on Xperia Z and Xperia ZL as mentioned by Sony today on Twitter. Sony first rolled Android 4.4.4 update on Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra and now the older Xperia “Z” series handsets Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z have joined the list. Amazingly Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet have not been updated on Android 4.4.4 yet.
Android 4.4.4 update is released in form of 10.5.1.A.0.283 firmware on Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, already confirmed rolling in many regions like UK, Taiwan, France, Germany etc.
Sony has updated the official changelog of 10.5.1.A.0.283 firmware on their website as:

Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is confirmed on both Xperia Z C6902 and C6903 handsets. 10.5.1.A.0.283 firmware update is only available over PC Companion yet.

cazketer, first you must download and install the latest Sony PC Companion to your PC. Once you installed it, connect you Xperia ZL to your PC via USB connector, once your ZL connected to your PC, Sony PC Companion must have a message regarding the new update. Follow the instruction given by the PC Companion on how to update your ZL phone.
hey man, thank for the Firmware. Helped me a lot.
Mind you, I have NOT UTILIZED THE FULL FIRMWARE, but only the KERNEL.
Had bricked my XPERIA ZL by accidently flashing the wrong KERNEL.
Also, let me know, if the firmware is stock or if I flash the full firmware, then will I get a ROOTED phone???
