Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact has just been out in market and it has not been a very long since users got their hands on it and both devices have achieved root and CWM recovery is now available for installation. Demerit of present method of rooting is that bootloader needs to be unlocked otherwise it can’t be done.

Xperia Z3 D6XX and Xperia Z3 Compact D58XX are compatible with the below posted method. Keep in mind that unlocking bootloader will void your device’s warranty so proceed at your own risk. Camera is working after unlocking bootloader so no issues about it.

How to Root Xperia Z3

To root Xperia Z3 you must be on stock android 4.4.4 23.0.A.2.93 firmware , unlocked bootloader, working fastboot. Remember adb is not working in recovery for the time being.  To unlock bootloader visit here.

You need to flash the kernel ( Download Z3_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_v01_FW-93.img ) first. Detailed Steps mentioned by XDA dev DooMLoRD here.

To enter in recovery when Sony logo comes and LED light turns pink/amber/orange keep on pressing Volume Up button.

How to Root Xperia Z3 Compact

To root Xperia Z3 Compact you must be on stock android 4.4.4 23.0.A.2.105 firmware , unlocked bootloader, working fastboot. You will get CWM recovery 6.0.4.7.

You need to flash the kernel ( Download Z3c_DooMLoRD_AdvStkKernel_v01_FW-105.img ) first. Detailed Steps mentioned by XDA dev DooMLoRD here.

    Hi!

    My screen went black and i just get sound when it starts up after i flashed it.. u know what happened wrong? Did the fastboot when i flashed

    – Press power button + volume up until it vibrates 3 times and turns off.
    – download sony emma and install it http://developer.sonymobile.com/serv…he-flash-tool/
    – connect your phone in flashmode pressing volume down and then connect the usb cable (you SHOULD/MUST install drivers first, thats a must when connecting your phone to the PC)
    – let sony emma to recognize the device and just click “apply service” to restore your phone to factory conditions/software/everything
    – try to root again
    – repeat until success
