Sony is finally done with rolling first script of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet in Baltic and Nordic regions for the LTE variants. While many regions and HSPA+ variants of the device has not got the update yet, we are still waiting for the second script of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update to roll out quickly.

Meanwhile, if you have updated your Xperia Z2 D6503 on Lollipop 23.1.A.0.690 firmware and looking for the root, then now a method to access root on 23.1.A.0.690 firmware is available.

Root on Xperia Z2 23.1.A.0.690 firmware

To get root on 23.1.A.0.690 firmware, you must have already custom recovery installed on your Xperia Z2 running Android 4.4 KitKat.

Below posted pre-rooted flashable zip of 23.1.A.0.690 firmware works on both locked and unlocked bootloader handsets. It doesn’t have any working recovery installed yet (firmware is from Baltic region). Make a backup of your data before proceeding.

Hi I may sound like a noob since I’m new to Sony phones and rooting it is quite a task. What I want to ask here is how to flash the zip file. My phone does not start in flashmode using the hardware combinations(Power+Volume keys) neither does the ADB method work. My Bootloader is unlocked.
        Any help is really appreciated!

Can i flash this prerooted zip in a Xperia z2 with custom recovery and locked bootloader?

    • Anurag Kumar March 18, 2015 at 7:25 pm - Reply

Yes you can, make sure to back up the content first, wiping full data would be good.

Go if you are one lte version of handset, if on hspa version then it is your choice.

Hello Anurag, i have flashed D6503 on D6502. i came to see two issues. 1. No Signal
    2. Its taking time to shut and this is seen in case of 4.4.4 version time also.

Please post a solution for this.

    • Anurag Kumar March 19, 2015 at 5:27 pm - Reply

No signal ? did you do full wipe of phone data while flashing ?

Have you tried removing and then inserting again your SIM or changing mobile networks ?

Shutting down time should resolve I guess after one/two boots.

hey since , the lolipop update is now available in india ,can we just download the update and then using prf creater make a pre rooted zip file for the firmware and then flash it through recovery.

  17. rusken April 9, 2015 at 7:37 am - Reply

Thanks for the tutorial but the problem is after flashing the firmware I can’t access twrp or touchwiz recovery so unable to flash the baseband. Also my z2 bootloader is locked on trying to unlock it. It’s just not installing the s1 fastboot drivers. So sonys official method and flashttool method isn’t working. New to rooting pls advise
