A new 3.2.0.B.0.11 version update is available for Sony Software update app over the older 3.2.0.A.0.10 version. Update brings usual bugs fixing and performance enhancement.

This app in integration with Sony’s Whats New app now updates software in the Xperia smartphones. This app can’t be used standalone app now.

Western Digital is a very popular name when it comes to external hard drives and recently we reviewed Western Digital My Passport Pro 2 TB RAID Storage and today we have picked up My Passport Wireless Wi-Fi Mobile Storage.

My Passport Wireless Wi-Fi Mobile Storage has the Wi-Fi connectivity and battery backup of 6 hour (while video streaming) and an in-built SD-card reader with FTP support. WD has launched WD Cloud App which allows mobiles/tablets to wirelessly transfer data from hard drive to the device.

Charging

Either use USB Power adapter or connect the usb cable to your laptop. Red light blinks stating that My Passport Wireless Wi-Fi Mobile Storage is charging.

There are 4 levels of charging indications:

Blue color – 100% charged
Green color – 75% charged
Yellow color – 50% charged
Red color – 15% charge

Design

My Passport Wireless Wi-Fi Mobile Storage is compact in size and easily fits in your hand though it has got some weight and thickness as compared to WD My Passport Ultra 1 TB portable hard drive.

On the front top side you will find two LED indicators, one is for battery charging/charged i.e. Power and other one for Wi-Fi connectivity. It has two manual buttons, one is power button and other one has two functions (press it while hard drive is power off, it displays battery indicator and while on, it allows you to connect to Wi-Fi networks).

How to set up?

Press the power button (left to the USB port), battery indication will come at that instant.

As soon as the hard drive gets connected to the laptop via USB cable, you will see white light blinking. You can either use it as traditional hard drive or use it as a Wi-Fi hotspot (in that case it acts like a media server/NAS).

Transfer Speed – Performance

To check the transfer speed of the My Passport Wireless Wi-Fi Mobile Storage we used Blackmagic Disk Speed app.

5GB stress test – 5 Times done in continuity (Hard drive connected via USB cable)
Write 34.9 MB/s
Read 39.9 MB/s

Read/Write transfer speed remained till 30 MB/s which is kind of very disappointing.

It also has support for FTP (though it is turned off initially for security reasons).

My Cloud App

To transfer the data from hard drive to your mobile/tablet, download the WD My Cloud App from Play Store. Connect to Wi-Fi “MyPassport” network on your mobile and access the files from the app.

Use http://mypassport.local to access the settings on your Mac or http://mypassport to access on Windows OS. WebUI has a very nice interface as compared to the app.

SD Card Compatibility

SD, SDHC, SDXC and micro SD card if used along with supporting adapter. Almost all kind of file formats are supported by the hard drive but My Cloud app has an issue with displaying thumbnails (it worked with jpeg files but not with RAW files).

Put in your SD card inside the slot and press the WPS button, it will start copying of data from SD card to the hard drive.

My Passport Wireless Wi-Fi Mobile Storage 2 TB variant is available for Rs. 15300 from Amazon India, $174 from Amazon International, and for £146 from Amazon UK.

My Passport Wireless Wi-Fi Mobile Storage overall is a very expensive deal and transfer speed is not very nice though wireless connectivity option, SD card slot, FTP support, media server features have the ability to attract attention of interested users. For a 1 TB hard drive, there are many other options available in the market if one is looking for a normal USB connectivity hard drive.

[ REVIEW ] Western Digital My Passport Pro – Portable RAID Storage

WD My Passport Pro 2 is specifically made for Apple MacBook users as it features RAID Storage with Thunderbolt port connectivity option. It contains 2 separate 1 TB hard drives inside it.

We are reviewing model number WDBRMP0020DBK, 2 TB variant for Mac OS.

Specifications

Robust aluminium enclosure

Western Digital My Passport Pro 2 has a very compact solid aluminium enclosure though you will feel some weight when you hold it in your hand.

Cooling Fan is located on the rear side where cable is wrapped.

Integrated Thunderbolt Cable

A cable of length less than 25 cm is available for connectivity, it is built into the HD unit and wraps around it into a rubber groove. Careful handling of cable is necessary as if broken can hamper the usability of the hard drive.

White LED blinks when you connect the hard drive to the computer.

Storage Options – User-selectable RAID 0, 1

Users have the option to use it as RAID 0 array or RAID 1 array storage which means if you are using it as RAID 0 array then you use the hard drive to its full potential i.e. 2 TB with the maximum transfer speed wheres if used as RAID 1 array then you compromise on its capability (transfer speed) and use only 1 TB hard drive space and every file you copy in it makes a mirror of it and store on the other 1 TB hard drive so your data remains safe in case one hard drive gets fail or corrupted.

WD provides an app to switch between both options or use Disk Utility Option to do that. It came initially as RAID 0 in our review unit.

Transfer Speed

To check the transfer speed of the Western Digital My Passport Pro 2 TB RAID Storage we used Blackmagic Disk Speed app.

RAID 0

5GB stress test – 5 Times done in continuity
Write 204.9 MB/s
Read 218.5 MB/s

It is suitable for working video format 1080p FHD for professional use and on the right hand side of above image you can see the frames per second (fps).

While using it as RAID 1, speed got reduced upto 120 MB/s for both reading/writing.

No Power adapted needed

It is powered directly through the thunderbolt port present on the MacBook.

Fan

In-built fan makes noise if you are heavily using both storage drives for longer duration, a humming noise can be easily heard and might irritate some users.

MacBook Time Machine Usage

Apple allows you to create a system backup of your data via Time Machine Backup option. It is always recommended to keep backups in case you ever want to restore your system.

We tested Western Digital My Passport Pro 2 TB RAID Storage to make a backup for 212 GB Data. It took more than 3 hours to make full system backup and during process hard drive got very hot and fan made humming noise.

Western Digital My Passport Pro 4 TB variant is available for Rs 44299 from Amazon India, for $234 from Amazon International, and for £192.19 from Amazon UK.

Western Digital My Passport Pro is a worthy solution for users looking for RAID storage as it comes in two variants i.e. 2 TB and 4 TB in a compact size. It allows you to switch between RAID 0, 1 arrays. It is true to say that it doesn’t have extraordinary transfer speed but for HD without SSD, getting speed of 200 MB/s+ is good. Price might be a downsize factor for some users. WD definitely can have a SSD variant of this HD with more connectivity options.

Secure your apps via Hexlock – App Lock & Photo Vault

A few days back we posted how to use Rocket VPN Android App on our portal and today we are presenting your Hexlock app from the same app publisher Liquidum which received the Top Developer badge on Google Play.

Hexlock app is a 2-in-1 app which secures your apps as well as pics. Be it SMS, Contacts, Calls, Gallery, WhatsApp (or any other app), it lets you lock any app with its secure PIN and Password options, which can be used in 6 different profiles. Hexlock’s new Photo Vault services allows you to hide certain pics and videos in the locked gallery itself.

Setting up App Lock

After downloading the app, once you open it for the first time, you have to set up a “PIN” or “PASSWORD” for locking various services. Let’s go ahead with choosing “PIN” for the time being. You can choose only 4 digit PIN (use your Google account in case you forget your PIN).

PIN has to be entered every time you use the Hexlock app after closing it.

Setting up Fingerprint Unlocking

Hexlock app now allows unlocking apps via setting up a fingerprint scanning. We tested this feature on our Nexus 6P and it works like charm.

Tap on enable fingerprint unlocking and it is done.

To automatically switch between various profiles (different profiles have different apps locked) using Wi-Fi network, enable “Auto-Activate” feature.

Setting up Photo Vault

To use the Media Vault Feature you need to allow Hexlock app to access your media and video files, once permission is given you can use this feature.

Add the various pics and videos in the media vault folder.

Setting up Profiles

Hexlock app allows you to add 6 different Wi-Fi profiles which allows you to have different apps unlocked in each profile which you can auto-switch.

6 Profiles available by default are: Party, Parental, Work, Home, Cafe and School. Names and icon can be edited by the user.

Check your notification screen to see the count of apps locked.

Fingerprint unlocking of apps is a new add on which is not present in many apps. Face unlocking can be a feature which if enabled will make this app to stand tall among other related apps.

Setting Up GoDaddy Online Store

We added GoDaddy Online Store service for reviewing purpose. Let’s see how to set it up. Open the GoDaddy Online Store dashboard.

Setting up Online Store

Choose a unique business name
You can either use a pre-owned domain name or create a subdomain. GoDaddy provides an option to choose a temporary URL, we chose it to test the service. Temporary URL looked like gizmobolt.mysimplestore.com. We recommend you get a dedicated domain name for your business.
Add an email address associated with your account
Click on “Create Store” to set up the initial service

Go ahead with the “Getting started guide”, once you are done, click on “go live” button.

Click the close button and open the link given under tag “check out your store“. Online store is now live with the pre-defined customisations.

If you are not happy with your store’s design, GoDaddy has a lot many customisable options available to edit. Below you can see the pre-defined format of the online store.

Now we will make you familiar with the various customisation tools available in GoDaddy Online Store.

Once you are done, you can track your sales via GoDaddy Online Store Dashboard.

GoDaddy Online Store – Promotional Tools

GoDaddy Online Store allows you to use following promotional tools:

Sell on Facebook
Like and Share Buttons
Social Follow Buttons
Product Reviews
Email Signups

From the promotional tab in your dashboard, turn on all the features and set them up by following said instructions.

GoDaddy Online Store – Sell your products on Facebook set up. It is done by third party service Shopial.

If you are running a special coupon for your customers, you can make one from in-built tool available.

Now once you are done with using various promotional tools, lets see how to set up the website pages.

Go to Themes tab (there are 18 themes available to choose from)
Choose a desired theme by clicking on it

Go to Site tab
Add Store Logo
Define product display, check out settings, store footer
Add Google Analytics Id to track your website visitors. Sign up here

GoDaddy Online Store – Setting up Web Pages

Click on Pages tab
Add the different standalone webpages you require in your online store, ex. About Us, Contact Us, Privacy Policy, etc.

We added 4 different pages (including Home) in our online store. You can see them below.

Go to Navigations tab
Choose the destination from here for linking various webpages to different links. You can add upto 10 menu items from here

Add your website banners.

Once you are done with the above mentioned set ups, you’re newly designed online store will have a completely different look as compared to what was earlier (default look). Check out below.

GoDaddy allows you to create email signups mailers for your customers so that you can reach all your potential customers. Do not forget to use this tool.

Samsung recently launched a special Galaxy S7 Edge Injustice Edition marking the 3rd anniversary of the release of the mobile game Injustice: Gods Among Us. It is more like a Batman Edition Galaxy S7 Edge where a golden colored bat logo is carved on the rear panel of Galaxy S7 Edge.

Galaxy S7 Edge Injustice Edition brings no specification changes but a Batman Injustice Theme is sported by the handset featuring a black-golden color system UI. Many Galaxy S7 Edge users are now looking for Injustice Theme and it is now available for install.

XDA recognised themer t-shock has posted a tutorial on How to Install Galaxy S7 Edge Injustice Theme with the PER firmware (tested on G935F).

Steps to Install Galaxy S7 Edge Injustice Theme:

Backup all your important data and files (as they will be deleted) before trying below mentioned steps and make sure your device is charged more than 40%. Do not proceed if you don’t know how to flash with Odin.

Download this ROM, SM-G935F_PER_XFA.zip [2 GB File]. It is the PER firmware with the Injustice Theme.
Download Odin3 v3.11.1
Open Odin software, select the AP to the AP and CP to the CP, etc.
Chose the option pit section (from 3 Tabs: Log, Option, Pit) & select the given PIT, as the CSC.tar is very big
Kindly check the re-partition button
Reboot to download mode. Flash it!
Wipe data (in recovery), it is to be done to apply special CSC.
Reboot again and it’s done.

NOTE: Standalone Galaxy S7 Edge Injustice Theme apk (Download here) is also available for install, courtesy of t-shock but whether it will work like a normal app it is unknown, try and let us know.

Xperia Z3+ 32.2.A.0.224 Firmware Update rolled – STAMINA MODE included

Two days back Sony rolled Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow 32.2.A.0.224 firmware update for Xperia Z5 series and now it is live for Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z3+ Dual also along with Xperia Z4 Tablet.

32.2.A.0.224 firmware brings STAMINA MODE back to Xperia devices which was earlier removed in initial Marshmallow firmware update by Sony Mobile.

Sony Album 7.8.A.0.2 app update – Bug fixes and performance enhancements

Sony Album app has got a new 7.8.A.0.2 version update over the older 7.7.A.0.10 version. Newer update brings feature of “go back to the previous screen with Swipe up/down gesture on full screen view”.

Album 7.8.A.0.2 app update also features usual bug fixing and performance enhancements. App should work on Android 4.2+ running Xperia devices.
