Xperia S Unofficial CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat from HoloUI Team

As when many Xperia devices all from 2011 to 2013 lineup are getting unofficial CyanogenMod 11 android 4.4 KitKat builds from many Xperia developers, Xperia S users were asking when a ROM will come for their devices. Here it comes, HoloUI team has created an Unofficial CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat for Xperia S exclusively though in alpha stage working smooth.

Previously we have seen Unofficial CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat build coming for Xperia 2011 Devices from LegacyXperia Project and for Xperia Z1, Z,  ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, T, V, Go, P, Sola, U, SP, Tablet Z; many builds from which coming from FreeXperiaTeam. Now almost every Xperia device have got Unofficial CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat build except for Xperia Ion.

As per HoloUI team, ROM is still in alpha stage, if you want to try it you can. Installing such ROMs require you to unlock the bootloader of phone. Keep in mind to have  a backup of the DRM keys before unlocking the bootloader for safety.

Bugs

Video playback is still an issue and Force close error on many games.

What is working ?

Camera, Sound, Mobile Data, W-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Voice calls etc are working fine.

There is a slight dispute going on this ROM as it is built from RaymanFX 4.4 source so the XDA dev has asked Xperia S users to wait for a bit for his Unofficial CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat build for Xperia S and consider this ROM as temporary OpenSEMC pre-pre-preview, it’s you wish to got with which dev.

Unofficial CyanogenMod 11 for Xperia 2011 Devices from LegacyXperia Project

Future of Android 4.4 KitKat firmware update on Xperia 2011 devices is totally dark officially and even on 2012 Xperia devices, it is in shadow so far. In the meantime developer community has been a lot friendly as recently we saw unofficial CyanogenMod 11 coming up for various  devices viz. Xperia Z1, Z,  ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, T, V, Go, P, Sola, U, SP, Tablet Z; many builds from which coming from FreeXperiaTeam.

For Xperia 2011 devices viz. Xperia Arc/Arc S, Neo, Neo V, Pro, Mini Pro, Active, Mini, Ray, Live with Walkman; LegacyXperia Project Team has come up with unofficial CyanogenMod 11 now. As tested by many users, ROMs are pretty much stable only a few things are not working.

If you want to try Android 4.4 KitKat CyanogenMod build on your above mentioned device then you should know that installing such ROMs require you to unlock the bootloader of phone. Keep in mind to have  a backup of the DRM keys before unlocking the bootloader for safety.

How to play Flash Videos on Android 4.4 KitKat on Nexus 5, 4, Nexus 7, 10 Tablet

Android 4.4 KitKat marked its presence with Google Nexus 5 and soon on Google Nexus 4 and Google Nexus 7 Tablet but what actually is missing from Android 4.4 KitKat build from Nexus 5 is that playing flash videos is totally incompatible, checked with browsers like Dolphin, Firefox and Google Chrome.

All credits to XDA user “surviveland”, he has found a way to play flash videos on Android 4.4 KitKat on Nexus 5, as per him some API’s have been removed from Android 4.4 KitKat build which were used as to play flash content.  Follow the guide below to play Flash Videos on Android 4.4 KitKat on Nexus 5.

Below mentioned guide is confirmed working for Dolphin browser on Google Nexus 5 , for rest you try and let us know.

First of all download below mentioned apps from Google Play.

  • Download Dolphin Browser and Dolphin Jetpack.
  • Download hacked version of flash player from below link. Unintsall any flash player already installed on your device and then install fresh one from below.

Download Adobe Flash Player 11.1.apk | 4MB

To install apps from unknown sources, you need to go to settings > securities > unknown sources option, check it to install apps from location other than Google Play Store.

  • Check in Dolphin browser that flash settings are on, navigate to menu > settings > web content > flash player.

How to play Flash Videos on Android 4.4 KitKat on Nexus 5 - For Dolphin Browser

It’s done you can play flash contents in Android 4.4 KitKat on Nexus 5 especially in Dolphin browser. As it is not officially supported so speed of loading may be a bit slow.

Above method is confirmed working on Google Nexus 4, Nexus 7 2013, Nexus 10 running Android 4.4 KitKat build. As per many users it is not working with FireFox browser. Let us know if you have tried it and it worked for you or not, drop you comments.

Android 4.4 KitKat AOSP RevolutionROM for Xperia Z1 Released – Install it

Officially android 4.4 KitKat is announced for Sony Xperia Z1 but when no ones knows as so far only Android 4.3 is on line of Xperia Z1 due in December ( though no exact ETA is given yet ). A few days ago, we posted that Android 4.4 KitKat AOSP ROM Coming soon for Sony Xperia Z1 from XDA recognized developer “krabappel2548” and today something revolutionary has came up from same dev.

As its very clear from the title that Xperia Z1 users now can have android 4.4 KitKat love on their phone, yes krabappel2548 has released the first pure Android 4.4 KitKat AOSP based ROM for our beloved Xperia Z1.

Android 4.4 KitKat AOSP based ROM for Xperia Z1 is named as “RevolutionROM” and is now available for installing on Xperia Z1 but before you install, let us tell you what is working and what not.

It is  by no means a daily driver yet, but progress is super fast and we could expect a very stable build as soon as SONY fixes the Bootloader Unlock Issue. For those who don’t know about the issue, unlocking bootloader breaks the camera at the moment.
