Sony Mobile has simplified its unlock boot loader service with 3 main steps in a re-launched avatar. Unlocking boot loader voids your warranty, keep in mind before doing it.

Sony has added more clear compatibility settings of each device with firmware build written so that no user gets any trouble in unlocking the boot loader of his device. Let’s have a look at re-launched unlock boot loader service from Sony.

Enter your email address to receive the confirmation code for unlocking boot loader.

Click on the link sent on your email id.

Step 2: Enter your IMEI number for verification.

Step 3: After submitting IMEI number, unlock code will be given and then you can proceed unlocking boot loader on your Xperia device as per mentioned steps or you can find unlocking steps here.

Nothing has been changed except now Sony is clearly mentioning the devices which can be unlocked and on which firmware.

Sony has launched a new app named Action Camera Extension 1.00.12 which can be used to control various Sony camera wireless just like we have Sony smart camera app to control shutter of camera in Xperia devices and tablets. Sony is tagging it as their official camera shutter application for Sony SmartBand SWR10 and Sony SmartWatch 2.

You need to just pair the Action Camera Extension 1.00.12 app with your cam and you can control the shutter of your Sony cam within a range of 10 meters. When paired just get in the view of camera sensor and then tap on Sony SmartWatch 2 or Sony SmartBand SWR10 and you can take the pic with those accessories. In some Sony models you can also record a video with Action Camera Extension 1.00.12 app

SmartBand SWR10 1.4.0.392 app update – Tablet Support Added

Sony has rolled a SmartBand SWR10 1.4.0.392 app update which brings tablet support and user movement sensitivity for auto night mode. SmartBand SWR10 app is needed to configure your SmartBand SWR10 in Smart Connect app with LifeLog app from your paired device.

Users are complaining that SmartBand SWR10 app was having many issues like walking steps are not being logged properly, syncing issues, connecting errors. It is not sure though which bugs are fixed in this update, the best way to find is install the updated version and let us know.

Sony D2502 and Sony D2533 spotted on Indonesian Postel

Two new Xperia models i.e. Sony D2502 and Sony D2533 are spotted on Indonesian Postel website where in past we have seen so many upcoming Xperia models getting certified and launching soon when they were certified. Both handsets seem to be different variant of same parent model Sony D25XX where either one of them can be a LTE model and other as HSPA+ model.

No solid info is there on the specifications of Sony D2502 and Sony D2533 but they definitely seem to be mid range devices. Sony has already launched so many entry level and mid range devices this year and upcoming D2502, D2533 will add up in the list soon. We are not expecting any more phablet or 5″ devices from Sony for the time being so both these devices are expected to feature 4.3″-4.6″ screen display with specifications like Adreno 305 GPU, 1 GB RAM, 8 ( or 5 ) MP rear cam.

MobileFun sent us Sony SBH50 headset as a review unit to get out hands on it, priced at $92.99 on their eCommerce store. Inside the box you get one Sony SBH50 headset, 1 pair of earphones ( Model MH755 ), 4 extra ear buds, 1 Sony charger EP800 and a connecting cable ( Model EC300 ).

Let’s have a closer look at Sony SBH50 Stereo Bluetooth headset, you will see a Sony branding at top and NFC powered icon.

Let’s have a close look at various buttons available on Sony SBH50 headset.

3.5mm headphone jack is provided at sides along with a dedicated microphone. Move upward the front plate on which Sony is written and you can clip it on your Shirt, T-Shirt etc.

At the top side there is a small OLED screen display which displays text in white color only. You can read your SMS, Emails etc here by using menu option. Besides OLED screen you see a small circular button which is used to take and disconnect calls.

You see three buttons with arrow mark on it are used to play music track back and forward and to stop it. Circular button with back arrow mark is used to get to previous menu or main menu.

Micro USB connector is there to charge the Sony SBH50 headset using AC Adapter provided with the headset in the box. Power button is provided just besides Sony SBH50 headset.

Below you can see the main menu screen of Sony SBH50 headset. 5 options are provided to choose, from left to right; first one is settings option allowing you to pair and disconnect your headset from the paired device, second one is used to refresh the settings for reading SMS or emails, third one is used to select the music, fourth one is used to call on desired number and fifth one is used to play FM radio.

Sony SBH50 allows you to read your Emails and SMS through it. Just press the middle music play/stop button and whole message will be displayed on screen. As soon as the message comes you will hear a notification as a tone if earphones are put on and a speaking voice will read out the subject of the message.

Connect to available radio frequency in your area.

Browse whole music list of your paired device from your headset.

With the help of center button besides OLED screen you can make calls to any number which are in your recent call list.

Sony Mobile has tweeted today about its next Xperia device coming this season as “Shh… do you want to know a secret? Stay tuned for the next big thing this season.” It seems that Sony is about to launch a new Xperia device and it may be the successor of Xperia Z Ultra as “Xperia Z2 Ultra”. If you remember last year 2013, Xperia Z Ultra was launched at the same time i.e. mid year 2013 and now is the same period going on.

Sony has also tweeted the pic of this said upcoming Xperia device where in background we see a model in red color ( image out focused ). Right slim profile of device is shown with the volume rocker buttons, signature power button and external camera shutter key. Side profile of phone/phablet seems very thin.

Sony recently launched a major update for its Movies app in form of 6.2 .A.0.8 version where a new UI with features like pinch to zoom, slide in and out menu navigation are seen and now a new minor bug fixing update is rolling in form of Movies 6.2.A.0.10 app has been spotted as OTA update.

Movies 6.2.A.0.10 app update is confirmed on handsets like Xperia Z2, Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z, SP, ZL, ZR and other android 4.3 running Xperia handsets. Movies 6.2.A.0.10 app update is of 17.5 MB size update accessible via update center app only. No specific changelog is attached from Sony regarding this update.

New Xperia certified on FCC, FCC ID PY7PM-0732-BV running 18.2.A.0.9 firmware

Sony is planning to launch a new Xperia handset soon in the market and it can be predicted by seeing that recently a new Xperia device with FCC ID PY7PM-0732-BV running 18.2.A.0.9 firmware got passed though the FCC certification. Sony has already launched a couple of handsets like Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1S, Xperia E1 / E1 Dual, Xperia T2 Ultra / T2 Ultra Dual, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia A2, Xperia ZL2 so far in first 5 months of 2014.

New Xperia handset which is running 18.2.A.0.9 firmware, android version is still unknown and only a bit info regarding the bands used in phone and the position of phone’s FCC id info tray is spotted in the pics.

Sony Japan launches waterproof SRS-X1 speaker, SRS-X2 20W output speaker

Earlier today Sony Japan has launched two new set of speakers line viz. waterproof SRS-X1 speaker and high output SRS-X2 speaker. SRS-X1 speakers are identical to another model SRS-BTV5 with some enhancement and water resistant nature while SRS-X2 is amplified for higher volume and powerful sound experience.

Sony SRS-X1 speaker will be available in White, Black, Pink and Violet and Sony SRS-X1 speaker will be available in White and Black color, 21 June onwards at price 8500 Yen ($83) + Tax and 9500 Yen ($93) + Tax respectively from Sony Stores in Japan. Sony SRS-X1 speakers are IPX7 rated equivalent to JIS and JIS IPX5 suitable for safely usage in bathroom and kitchen.

Background defocus app was limited to a few Xperia smartphones till now but today Sony released it globally on Play Store, now Background defocus app can be downloaded on all Xperia handsets which have Sony Social Smart Camera app installed.

Background defocus 1.2.6 version app is the first version which is seen on Play Store though older versions have been spotted on Xperia Z1, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z1S pre-installed in android 4.3 and android 4.4.2 KitKat update. Sony has provided an option to download and install Xperia themes from Play Store based on Xperia theme engine on android 4.3 firmware update onwards and first Xperia themes were from app makers “The Green Personalisation” and “Knowit Mobile AB”. After a long time The Green Personalisation app maker has launched new Xperia themes today on Play Store viz. Xperia Themes Bestfriends, Sporty, Blinger, NewEngland, Headbanger; all are paid themes.

Above mentioned all themes are paid themes so you need to buy them before you install them. You need atleast android 4.3+ firmware on your Xperia device to install those themes, working on booth rooted as well as non rooted handsets. A couple of days back we came across Movies app 5.3.A.0.18 version update which brought new slide in feature for Movies app which was spotted at MWC 2014 event running on Xperia Z2 and now the same feature has been rolled in new Sony Album 6.0.A.0.26 and Walkman 8.3.A.0.2 app update which was rolled out today; update confirmed on Xperia Z2, Z1, Z, ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, L, SP and many other Xperia handsets.

Sony Album 6.0.A.0.26 and Walkman 8.3.A.0.2 app update brings new UI for both apps with much better pinch to zoom functionality and the menu option now slides in like Google Play Store app has. More new features, settings and smoothness is spotted on both apps. To download Sony Album 6.0.A.0.26 and Walkman 8.3.A.0.2 app update, you need to download both apps via update center app if you have got the notification; if not then check the below links to download it manually.

Long awaited UI of Sony SmartWatch 2 which was spotted at MWC 2014 event has just been rolled by Sony in form of 1.0.B.4.152/1.0.A.4.11 firmware. Sony has confirmed the news of new 1.0.B.4.152/1.0.A.4.11 firmware update for its SmartWatch2 on its official blog which brings many new features like customisable watch faces, wallpapers, calculators; improved Facebook and Gmail apps, notification drawer, Bluetooth connect/disconnect vibration settings.

Sony SmartWatch 2 1.0.B.4.152/1.0.A.4.11 firmware update is confirmed across European regions like UK, Sweden etc. Previous firmware on Sony SmartWatch 2 was 1.0.B.3.46/1.0.A.3.8. SmartWatch 2 SW2 app on Google Play Store has also been updated with new UI.

Yet another app from Sony is now available at Play Store “Xperia Keyboard version 6.4.A.0.6”; till now we have seen so many apps from Sony on Play Store especially Camera apps ( which were exclusively seen on Xperia Z1 ). If you own an Xperia smartphone, Xperia Keyboard app comes as pre-installed as stock keyboard app. At present Xperia Keyboard app version is 6.3.A.0.18 on android 4.4.2 KitKat update from Sony.

Xperia Keyboard 6.4.A.0.6 can be downloaded from Play Store now, currently working on android 4.4.2 running Xperia devices only. Xperia Keyboard is the default Xperia keyboard app for all languages except Chinese, Korean, Japanese. Xperia Keyboard 6.4.A.0.6 is working fine on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z1 Compact. Sony says new “Back up and Sync” features has been added in the keyboard app using your Sony Entertainment Network account.

Sony Windows phone coming this summer July 2014, Rumors

Sony making a Windows phone officially, this news has always been in rumors but it seems that it is about to come true now. Tom Warren, Senior Editor The Verge has just tweeted about GDR updates for Windows phone 8.1, meanwhile he also tweeted that Sony Windows phone might be coming this summer July 2014 with new GDR updates for Windows phone from Microsoft.

Though nothing is confirmed for the time being Sony manufacturing a Windows phone though they made a prototype handset a long time back with code name “Julie” which never saw release unfortunately.

A few days back we saw that Pierre Perron, head Sony Mobile Europe quoting…

“We are continuing our discussions with other partners, including Microsoft, as part of our partnership with this company on the broader Sony spectrum.”

It would be great to see Sony manufacturing a Windows phone handset along with Android. Sony has become the 2nd largest smartphone brand in India replacing Apple from second spot as per the data released by IDC. Sony Windows phone can improve their brand value more in regional as well as Global market as for the time being Windows phone market is mainly covered by Nokia only.
