Sony Mobile has finally started rolling Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for the older Xperia “Z” series. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update in the form of 10.6.A.0.454 firmware build is now confirmed rolling on Xperia Z via OTA.

Android 5.0.2 Lollipop 10.6.A.0.454 firmware is not rolling via PC Companion or XperiFirm tool for the time being. 10.6.A.0.454 firmware is confirmed for Xperia Z in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, USA region (on C6602). Lollipop 10.6.A.0.454 firmware update is also confirmed rolling for Xperia ZR (in Hong Kong and South America region).

Sony shows Xperia Z running Andorid Lollipop

Earlier today Sony posted a pic on their official Google+ page showing Android Lollipop running on Xperia Z, the very first device of Xperia “Z” generation with the caption “Coming Soon…“. Coming Soon might not sound different to Xperia “Z” series users as we have heard the same phrase from Sony many times regarding Android Lollipop update.

Yesterday Sony announced that Android Lollipop update will also come on Xperia T2 Ultra (T2 Ultra Dual) and Xperia C3 (Dual) also along with Xperia “Z” series.

Below you can see the pic posted by Sony today, showing the new lockscreen notification on Xperia Z running Android Lollipop exclusively.

Earlier Sony rolled Android Lollipop update on Xperia Z3 series and Xperia Z2 series in Nordics and Baltic regions only while as per the latest statement released by Sony, Android Lollipop update is available globally to Xperia Z3 series now.

Xperia Z2 series users will be getting Android Lollipop update starting from next week.

New 10.5.1.A.0.292 firmware has been certified for Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Z Tablet on PTCRB today, probably bug fixing update over 10.5.A.0.233 firmware ( Android 4.4.4 update ). As 10.5.1.A.0.292 firmware is certified for all variants of Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, Z Tablet on PTCRB, we are expecting that it will be rolling soon.

Sony has already promised to bring Android 5.0 Lollipop update on Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Z Tablet in early 2015 and it is good to see that Sony is still maintaining the firmware update line for early members of Xperia Z series.

Are you bored of your old stock navigation keys on your Xperia device, well if yes then here is something you can try i.e. customized SuperUser navigation bar softkeys courtesy of XDA user androidfreak70. SuperUser is an app used to main app admin rights permission on rooted devices. If you are not using some modded Xperia themes this SuperUser navigation bar softkeys are pretty cool.

It works great on rooted, deodexed Xperia Z ROM but it should also work on stock KitKat ROM. Back up your systemUI.apk first before using this mod. You need to download the below attached systemUI.apk file and push in system/app folder, set permissions rw- r– r– and reboot. Follow these steps to move app to system/app folder.

Sony has finally rolled Android 4.3 update for Xperia Z T-Mobile US variant in form of 10.4.C.0.814 firmware update which many users have started receiving as OTA on their handsets. Sony has officially rolled android 4.4.2 KitKat update for whole Xperia “Z” series carrier independent handsets but Xperia Z T-Mobile US was still on android 4.2.2 and Xperia Z1S is still on android 4.3.

There is no specific info that 10.5.A.0.227 firmware will hit as official update for Xperia Z but now you can test in on your Xperia Z if you don’t want to wait anymore. Xperia Album App 5.4.A.0.20 update rolling – Android KitKat Support

Sony has just rolled Album App 5.4.A.0.20 update following the previous Album App 5.4.A.0.12 version rolled in early Feb. Album App 5.4.A.0.20 update spotted as OTA update on Xperia Z family members and Xperia L, Xperia SP also following the same changelog as like its previous version.

Album App 5.4.A.0.20 update says Android 4.4 KitKat support again in changelog, which may indicate that Sony is updating its media apps before they roll out the official android 4.4 KitKat firmware update on their handsets. If you look closely in the screenshots you will see white icons in the status bar which is a native KitKat feature.

10.4.C.0.797 firmware certified for Xperia Z C6606 and C6616 variants

A new 10.4.C.0.797 firmware build has been certified for Xperia Z C6606 and C6616 variants on PTCRB following the previous certification of 10.4.C.0.793 firmware which was not rolled. 10.4.C.0.797 firmware seems to be a particular carrier specific firmware update for T-Mobile Xperia Z or any other Xperia Z carrier variant model. 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware released for Xperia Z C6602/C6606 still has not appeared on PTCRB.

Previous firmware which marked appearance of Xperia Z T-Mobile was 10.4.B.0.569 build and this new 10.4.C.0.797 firmware may or may not come seeing the frequent change in build within 10 days of certification of last firmware.

At present we don’t have info regarding KitKat firmware update for Xperia Z but for Xperia Z1, Z Ultra and Z1 Compact, testing of KitKat 14.3.A.x.xxx firmware has already started. It seems other members of Xperia Z family will get KitKat update later after flagship models are updated.

No ETA is there for 10.4.C.0.797 firmware rollout yet, we will let you know if this 10.4.C.0.797 firmware rolls out on Xperia Z. It will not come to global versions of Xperia Z.

Just a day after we saw 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware rolling on Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z globally now, yet another 10.4.C.0.793 firmware has been certified for Xperia Z C6606 and C6616 on PTCRB. 10.4.C.0.793 firmware seems a minor update over previous 10.4.B.0.569 firmware seen on T-Mobile Xperia Z variant.

10.4.C.0.793 firmware is only certified for Xperia Z C6606 and C6616 and will not be seen on C6602 / C6603. It seems android 4.3 update only and as per our knowledge android 4.4.x KitKat update is very far for Xperia Z for the time being. Check below the 10.4.C.0.793 firmware certification.

In the middle of android 4.3 update crisis for Xperia SP, T, V and TX; Sony has just rolled a new bug fixing android 4.3 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware update for Xperia Z, Xperia ZR and Xperia ZL officially. A few days ago 14.2.A.1.136 firmware update was rolled for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra and this new 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware brings similar improvements. Sony rolled first android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware for Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.

Sony Mobile has just tweeted that they are rolling 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware for Xperia Z, ZL and ZR and for Xperia Tablet Z ETA will be told new week. In the changelog of 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware update, they mentioned “brings BT connectivity, battery, YouTube app improvements & more“.

We have not seen any user getting 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware update till now, it seems it is still seeding and gradual rollout will be done soon depending upon the regions. We have not got it yet on our Xperia Z C6602 in India. Sony has update on the software support pages for Xperia Z, ZL and ZR with 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware details dated today.

Sony updates Album App to version 5.4.A.0.12 – Android KitKat Support

Sony Mobile has just updated one of their media app, Album app is updated to new version 5.4.A.0.12 from previous 5.3.A.0.24 version. This new update moves album app from version 5.3.A to 5.4.A which means considerable changes in the app. At present Album app version 5.4.A.0.12 is confirmed rolling on Xperia Z series and Xperia L across many nations.

Album app version 5.4.A.0.12 brings android 4.4 KitKat Support as mentioned in the changelog which is very amusing right now, why would Sony mention android 4.4 KitKat stuff in the changelog of media app update. Well if you see clearly in screenshots below in one the screenshot taken by Sony itself, all icons in status bar are white in color which is a standard KitKat feature of Android.

Finally party has arrived to Xperia Z family i.e. android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware has officially been rolled on Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Tablet Z; Sony confirmed it officially on their blog. Previously we saw a leak of android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware “Commercial and Journalist” version which almost clearly stated what Sony has hidden inside android 4.3 for Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.

Android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware is confirmed on Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z rolling successfully via PC Companion and SUS ( Bridge for Mac ) No OTA seen yet. Xperia Tablet Z SGP321 ( Nothing seen on Wi-Fi users ) Android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware confirmed in regions like India, Poland. Yesterday Sony rolled out android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware update for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra officially which fixed many issues for both phones and Sony posted on their blog that further android 4.3 update rolling for other devices gonna follow.

Today PTCRB has certified Android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Tablet Z. All 4 Xperia devices will get the same Android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 build very soon. It should come in any moment now on all Xperia Z variants C6602, C6603, C6606, Xperia ZL variants C6502, C6503, C6506, Xperia ZR C5502, C5503 and Xperia Tablet Z LTE SGP321 version though it may not roll out at the same moment on each device.

Sony releases Android 4.4.1 AOSAP binaries for Xperia L,S,Z,ZL,Tablet Z

Officially it might take very long to get android 4.4 KitKat update on already mentioned Xperia devices from Sony but Xperia devices have recently got love from many developers. XDA devs have contributed for almost every Xperia device to get unofficially CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat build on them even the 2011 Xperia devices have got it.

In past Sony has released AOSP binaries for Xperia Z, ZL and Tablet Z and now Xperia L and Xperia S have been added to the list. Yes Sony has officially released Android 4.4 AOSAP binaries for Xperia L, S , Z, ZL, Tablet Z. Build available is KRT16O.S3.1044 ( android 4.4 KitKat ).

A few days back we saw Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.3 update being rolled on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z and ZL devices. Being a major Walkman app update it brought new playlist features like “newly added songs” etc. and just now a new Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.4 minor update has been rolled out. We just spotted it on our Xperia Z1 C6902. Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.4 update is confirmed rolling on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z and ZL so far. It’s only a minor bug fixing update as the build number has just increased by a decimal point. Check for a notification in update center as shown below.

Official CyanogenMod 11 Nightlies for Xperia Z,ZL,ZR,T,V,Tablet Z – Android 4.4 KitKat Build Available

December is approaching and here we wait for Android 4.3 to come out officially on Xperia devices and meanwhile a few days ago we posted unofficial CyanogenMod 11 Android 4.4 KitKat builds for 2011 Xperia devices from LegacyXperia Project team for Xperia Arc/Arc S, Neo, Neo V, Pro, Mini Pro, Active, Mini, Ray, Live with Walkman and before that for 2012-2013 Xperia Devices Xperia Z1, Z, ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, T, V, Go, P, Sola, U, SP, Tablet Z. All those builds were unofficially by various developers but now for some devices official CyanogenMod 11 Nightlies build have come up from CM team itself.

Official CyanogenMod 11 Nightlies for Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, T, V, Tablet Z (Wi-Fi + LTE version) is now available on CyanogenMod website. Keep in mind that “Nightlies” build is not a stable build and is updated very frequently so if you want to taste the flavor of android 4.4 KitKat on your above mentioned Xperia devices you can download the builds.

Installing such ROMs require you to unlock the bootloader of phone. Keep in mind to have a backup of the DRM keys before unlocking the bootloader for safety.

[ REVIEW ] Xperia Z Book Type Leather Case from PDair

After reviewing a lot many cases in a row for Xperia Z1 from Roxfit, Brando, TETDED, Muvit, RockPhone CN, PDair today we will review a premium book type case from PDair for Xperia Z. Xperia Z has such a sleek body that one would think twice before covering it with any case but in order to protect the glass panels on both side you should opt a case.

Xperia Z Book Type Leather Case from PDair came as review sample unit for us, it is priced very decently at $29.99 and is shipped worldwide ( from Hong Kong ). Available in more than 10 colors and also comes with a leather belt clip.

Xperia Z Book Type Leather Case from PDair comes in brown box similarly just like Xperia Z1 case came from them. “PDair” logo is embossed on top of box.

The case is as usual stitched in white thread and is made from premium handmade deluxe South Korean cowhide leather. We must say the quality of leather is very good and it smells a bit for some days due to leather stuff issues.

We are currently noticing that many flip book style cases have no hearing speaker opening in the front flap in this case it is also missing may be because the thickness of front flap it too much as it may not be practically possible to do a hole then.

It comes with a magnetic colsure to close the front flap.

Back of the case is fitted with removable 360 degrees belt clip which can be very well inserted in the belt of trousers or jeans. Notice the opening at the camera lens, it seems it obstructs a pit portion of camera flash and camera flash seems distorted. A hole opening is given for secondary microphone at the back. While case is close no port is accessible.

Accessibility

While case is closed, you can access the SIM card slot, power button and volume rocker keys partially; to access them completely you need to open the case.

At the bottom phone is being held by two clips of case itself.

3.5 mm headphone jack port is well accessible.

At the book flap side, Micro SD card and USB port slots are well accessible including magnetic charging port but due tot thickness of the case you can’t use the magnetic charging port while case is on.

Inner lining of the case has velvet touch surface to protect the screen from any scratches.

T-Mobile USA Xperia Z Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.E.0.191 firmware update rolling finally

As December comes closer, release of android 4.3 update for Xperia handsets comes nearer and in the mean time T-Mobile has updated Xperia Z C6606/C6616 for the very first time to android 4.2.2 10.3.1.E.0.191 firmware from android 4.1.2 10.1.1.B.0.166 firmware update. It was certified by PTCRB back in early November Well it is quite late for the T-Mobile to update Xperia Z on android 4.2.2 when the world is talking about android 4.3 and android 4.4 while android 4.2.2 was rolled on global version of Xperia Z back in June.

Install Android 4.4 KitKat AOSP KRT16M Stable ROM on Xperia Z “Yuga”

While every Xperia smartphone user is waiting for the official wording from Sony Mobile on their plans for android 4.3 and android 4.4 KitKat update, as per Sony Mobile tweet they will let users know later this week but in the meantime XDA developer pabx has managed to boot up android 4.4 KitKat AOSP KRT16M ROM on Xperia Z “Yuga” which as per many users wordings, is a stable ROM.

It’ good too see android 4.4 AOSP development has begun for Xperia devices even before the launch of android 4.4 officially on them. It’s a great ROM as per users if you don’t want to wait for CyanogenMod ROM.

Android 4.4 KitKat AOSP KRT16M Stable ROM for Xperia Z

If you are planning to install this ROM on your Xperia Z, you must know that this ROM is purely based on android 4.4 KitKat AOSP and is needed to be flashed with fastboot. Let’s see what this ROM contains. Kernel is 3.4.67.

Working features :- As per version 3.1 of the android 4.4 KitKat AOSP KRT16M ROM on Xperia Z; Wi-Fi, audio, Camera / video recording, callings / SMS feature, GPS, NFC are working fine including other features too.

Known Bugs :- Some users after testing claims that syncing calendar with Google may not work on fresh installation of android 4.4 KitKat AOSP KRT16M ROM on Xperia Z, after a series of rebooting it works fine and while selecting mobile network manually and unwanted dialog box pops up, press home button to get rid of it.

T-Mobile USA Xperia Z C6606/C6616 10.3.1.E.0.191 firmware certified – Which Android version ?

In between the time when Sony Mobile officially tweeted that they are going to release their android 4.4 KitKat and android 4.3 update plans for the Xperia devices, a new firmware has been spotted for T-Mobile USA Xperia Z C6606/C6616. 10.3.1.E.0.191 firmware besides 10.3.1.E.0.190 firmware has been spotted on PTCRB website recently.

It is still not clear that 10.3.1.E.0.191 firmware belongs to which android version. It is a higer build over android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware update as the new firmware has a new series 10.3.1.E.X.XXX so it is expected to be a higher build of android too.

Check below the certification of 10.3.1.E.0.191 firmware on PTCRB website. 10.3.1.E.0.190 firmware can also be seen in below image.

No new firmware has been spotted for global Xperia Z C6603 LTE and C6602 HSPA+ versions, it something amazing that we saw a firmware certified for T-Mobile USA Xperia Z version.

We hope it may a higher build of android, hopefully android 4.3; still no official word on this. As soon as we get more info on this new firmware certified, we will update you…
