Sony has officially confirmed android 4.4.4 roll out for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra and their product page respectively.

14.4.A.0.108 firmware brings Android 4.4.4 for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra confirmed in regions like France, Turkey, UAE and Russia. Android 4.4.4 is a minor update from Google as well as from Sony over Android 4.4.2 KitKat update, it brings mainly security enhancement fixes. It is around 995 MB update.

A few days back we saw 14.3.A.0.761 firmware on Xperia Z1 L39h in China while the same update not seen anywhere else. Following 14.3.A.0.761 firmware, a new 14.3.A.0.769 firmware has been certified at PTCRB for Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra recently. After buggy KitKat update from Sony, 14.3.A.0.757 firmware was released to fix those bugs but unfortunately they are still there as users are reporting them.

14.3.A.0.769 firmware is not certified for all variants of Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra as only certain region handsets have got certification yet on PTCRB. Either 14.3.A.0.769 firmware will be certified later for all regions or is it again a carrier specific firmware update; time will tell.

A few days back we saw Xperia Z Ultra C6833 getting android 4.4.2 14.3.A.0.681 firmware update OTA notification on a user’s handset which was believed to be an internal leak or an update on a developer’s handset. 14.3.A.0.681 firmware screenshots revealed the new KitKat UI from Sony and other features also. 14.3.A.0.681 firmware system dump is now available for download and some apps and features have already been ported to other Xperia handsets.

Just now @latter21 from Digi-Wo, a credible source when it comes to Sony Xperia handset’s leaks and other internal info; has just posted a pic of Xperia Z Ultra C6802 running on 14.3.A.0.747 firmware which is android 4.4.2 KitKat, a build higher than what we saw previously ( 14.3.A.0.681 firmware ).

Yesterday system dump of 14.3.A.0.681 firmware was leaked and developers have started porting features from Xperia Z Ultra KitKat update now.

XDA dev DavidMKD has ported Xperia Z Ultra KitKat Charging Animation mod from 4.4.2 and it looks pretty nice. You can install it on your android 4.1.2+ running handset, rooted with CWM recovery installed. Kindly install SuperUser Mod if you can, follow the guide given here.

Two days back we saw 14.3.A.0.681 firmware getting rolled on an user’s Xperia Z Ultra C6833 which is an upcoming Android 4.4.2 KitKat update planned by Sony. It is believed either it is some internal leak or an update over developer handset as neither Sony nor any user reported it. Android 4.4.2 KitKat being a major update will definitely see a formal announcement from Sony when it is rolled for concerned devices.

Except for some 14.3.A.0.681 firmware screenshots nothing else was spotted, no detailed changelog. Well just now EXR Team has leaked Xperia Z Ultra Android 4.4.2 KitKat 14.3.A.0.681 firmware System Dump, which is available for download now. Kindly note it is a system dump, not Xperia Z Ultra 14.3.A.0.681 firmware ftf so it can not be flashed on any Xperia Z Ultra.

Xperia Z Ultra C6833 14.2.A.1.144 firmware certified on PTCRB

A day ago we saw 14.2.A.1.144 firmware getting certification for Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z1 C6903 and here it comes for Xperia Z Ultra C6833 also. 14.2.A.1.144 firmware is not spotted for HSPA+ version of Xperia Z Ultra. 14.2.A.1.144 firmware seems a carrier specific update so far to us as previous build 14.2.A.1.142 firmware has not been rolled on Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra yet but was seen rolling for Xperia Z1 Compact D5503.

14.2.A.1.146 firmware was spotted on Xperia Z1 Compact M51w a few days ago. At present Xperia Z Ultra is on android 4.3 14.2.A.1.136 firmware and if 14.2.A.1.144 firmware ever came will bring only minor bug fixing updates to Z Ultra.

14.2.A.1.142 firmware certified for Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z1 Compact

At present Sony Mobile is in middle of crisis regarding continuous delay in android 4.3 update for Sony Xperia SP, T, TX and V as promised by them and in middle of that regular updates are being rolled for Xperia Z family members. Recently we saw 14.2.A.1.136 firmware getting rolled for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and same is expected to hit Xperia Z1 Compact very soon. 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware was rolled on Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.

Just now a new 14.2.A.1.142 firmware is certified for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact on PTCRB for all the variants. 14.2.A.1.142 firmware has very less chances of getting rolled as we heard Sony is now currently working on 14.3.A.X.XXX firmware which will bring Android 4.4.X KitKat update on Xpera Z1, Z Ultra, Z1 Compact.

Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z Ultra GPE CyanogenMod 11 Nightly Available

A good news for Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition users, just now CyanogenMod has confirmed that CyanogenMod 11 Nightly version ROM is available now for the mentioned devices. CyanogenMod 11 is based on android 4.4.2 version. Sony has already planned android 4.4 update for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra but it may not be coming till March and Xperia Z Ultra GPE is already on android 4.4.2 KOT49H version and updates are maintained by Google.

At present CyanogenMod 11 Nightly is available for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra and for Z Ultra GPE it is in testing now. You need to unlock bootloader of respective devices for installing ROM. Xperia Z Ultra 4000mAh Mugen Power Battery Case is a bit heavy due to its larger size and the battery plate embedded in its lower portion. As when it charges Xperia Z Ultra, it gets somewhat heated due to induction from the case.

Charging Results

It took us around 5-6 hours to charge the case fully with the AC Adapter came with our Xperia Z1.
While charging Xperia Z Ultra from 0-53% , the case got discharged completely and it took around 2 hours 50 minutes to do that.

Well we have used so many battery case till now for Xperia Z, Xperia Z1 and all gives similar results due to lower output power given by case to phone..

Pros

Durable, easy to use.
Can charge your Xperia Z Ultra upto 50-60%.

Cons

Too expensive, many cheaper case are available in market.
Too much time taken to charge the case.

Mugen Power is well-recognized brand when it comes for external battery case, so it’s purely users wish to got with cheap cases or with a brand, well after using so many case Mugen Power case heats a bit less as compared to others and fits well.

Earlier today in morning we saw Sony officially announcing the min-tablet version in Japan in form of Xperia Z Ultra Wi-Fi Tablet SGP412 for 51800 Yen / $497 to be available by 24 Jan 2014 in 3 color variants black, white and purple. It is first Snapdragon 800 SoC powered tablet from Sony yet which has its flagship water and dust resistant features. As far as accessories are concerned Sony has also announced a new Sony magnetic charging dock DK33 especially for this new tablet for 2700 yen / $26.

We just spotted that Xperia Z Ultra SOL24 is now officially announced by Sony for AU by KDDI 4G network carrier. Xperia Z Ultra SOL24 features Snapdragon 800 SoC, Adreno 330 GPU, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB on board memory, 8 MP ear cam with IR blaster also added. Xperia Z Ultra SOL24 retains the water and dust resistant features as seen in original Xperia Z Ultra C68XX variants.

Sony SGP412 has been seen number of times till now and yesterday we came up with some official pictures of Sony SGP412 along with its dismantling assemble pics, SAR test pic and latest user manual. We were very sure that Sony SGP412 is the Xperia Z Ultra Wi-Fi tablet version and here it comes, Sony Mobile has now officially announced the Xperia Z Ultra Wi-Fi SGP412 Tablet model in Japan this morning. Soon we will also be seeing AU by KDDI also launching Xperia Z Ultra to their network in Japan.

Sony has confirmed that Sony SGP412 is the Wi-Fi tablet version of Xperia Z Ultra which features 6.4″ full HD LCD panel, 6.5 mm thickness, weighs 212 grams and retains the flagship water resistant and dust resistant characteristics. Surprisingly Sony has launched it with old Android 4.2.2 version, Snapdragon 800 SoC and Adreno 330 GPU with WH802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi connectivity and on board 32 GB ROM. Xperia Z Ultra Wi-Fi SGP412 Tablet is launched in 3 colors black, white and purple. Sony has now listed Xperia Z Ultra Wi-Fi SGP412 in tablet’s category on its site.

Xperia Z Ultra Wi-Fi SGP412 Tablet is priced in Japan at 51800 Yen ( around 52000 Yen ) almost $497 and will be available for sale by 24 Jan 2014 from online Sony Stores. Sony has also launched a new Sony Magnetic Charging Dock DK33 separately for Xperia Z Ultra Wi-Fi SGP412 Tablet along with Stylus Pen ES22, Power Cover CP12 Black Leather Case DCS-XZUPL01BK and White Leather Case DCS-XZUPL01WH.

As a promotional offer Sony is giving “E-Book coupon worth 1000 yen” to the customers on first come first serve basis.
