As 10.5.1.A.0.292 firmware is certified for all variants of Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, Z Tablet on PTCRB, we are expecting that it will be rolling soon.

Sony has already promised to bring Android 5.0 Lollipop update on Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Z Tablet in early 2015 and it is good to see that Sony is still maintaining the firmware update line for early members of Xperia Z series.

A few days ago 14.2.A.1.136 firmware update was rolled for Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra and this new 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware brings similar improvements. Sony rolled first android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware for Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.

Sony Mobile has just tweeted that they are rolling 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware for Xperia Z, ZL and ZR and for Xperia Tablet Z ETA will be told new week. In the changelog of 10.4.1.B.0.101 firmware update, they mentioned “brings BT connectivity, battery, YouTube app improvements & more“.

Recently XDA devs leaked android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware build for Xperia Z and Xperia ZL which was speculated that it is the final build and should come soon. Yesterday Sony rolled out android 4.3 14.2.A.0.290 firmware update for Xperia Z1 and Z Ultra officially which fixed many issues for both phones and Sony posted on their blog that further android 4.3 update rolling for other devices gonna follow.

Today PTCRB has certified Android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 firmware for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Tablet Z. All 4 Xperia devices will get the same Android 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 build very soon. It should come in any moment now on all Xperia Z variants C6602, C6603, C6606,  Xperia ZL variants C6502, C6503, C6506,  Xperia ZR C5502, C5503 and Xperia Tablet Z LTE SGP321 version though it may not roll out at the same moment on each device.

Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.4 Minor Update for Xperia Z, Z1, ZL, Z Ultra Rolling

A few days back we saw Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.3 update being rolled on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z and ZL devices. Being a major Walkman app update it brought new playlist features like  “newly added songs” etc. and just now a new Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.4 minor update has been rolled out. We just spotted it on our Xperia Z1 C6902. Walkman app version 8.0.A.0.4 update is confirmed rolling on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z and ZL so far. It’s only a minor bug fixing update as the build number has just increased by a decimal point. Check for a notification in update center as shown below.

As android 4.4 plans for Xperia devices confirmed by Sony just now stating that Xperia Z, ZL, Z Ultra, Z1 and Tablet Z are the first batch of devices which will get android 4.3 KitKat update soon, though no ETA is given. As Sony promised earlier about rolling android 4.3 jelly bean update soon, here comes the official news.

Sony Mobile has just now confirmed that Android 4.3 Coming in December on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z, ZL, ZR, Tablet Z, SP. As Sony said that some devices will be updated directly from android 4.1.2 to android 4.3 so the next batch of devices getting android 4.3 will be Xperia T, TX and Xperia V. Though it is a big deal if see android 4.3 coming for all above mentioned devices in December only.

Most awaited news from Sony Mobile has just came up about android 4.4 KitKat update on Xperia devices, it is now CONFIRMED that Android 4.4 KitKat for Xperia Z, ZL, Z Ultra, Z1, Tablet Z will come very soon thought it is not expected this year obviously due to scheduling of android 4.3 update in December.

Sony Mobile as announced on their official blog that Xperia Z, ZL, Z Ultra, Z1, Tablet Z will be getting android 4.4 KitKat updates in future though no ETA has be given yet. Strange to see that Xperia ZR has not been named yet, may be they will do in future or they won’t it still remains a mystery.

Sony has now officially rolled out 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware for Xperia Z, ZL and ZR which brings display, camera, battery fixes & performance tweaks to these devices. Only for now Xperia Z Tablet is left and very soon it will also be updated with same 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware.

As you all know Sony has patched the perf_event exploit from 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware onwards so in order to root the devices one need to use the older rootable firmware kernels as mentioned by legendary XDA Developer DooMLoRD.

How to Root Xperia Z 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware – STEPS

Works on both Locked as well as UnLocked Bootloaders.

Enable USB Debugging  and unknown sources option on your phone before proceeding. Do not use other kit version except V18.

  1. Download Flashtool, Open it. Flash the “XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.A.0.423_Generic_NL.f tf” file on your Xperia Z. It is the kernel of an old firmware of Xperia Z which was rootable.
  2. Reboot your Xperia Z after flashing. Connect to PC in USB Debugging mode.
  3. Do not forget to close FLASHTOOL. CLOSE FLASHTOOL , before proceeding next step or you will get serious error.
  4. Extract the downloaded “DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip” file and run the “runme_win” file.
  5. Follow onscreen instructions to root Xperia Z and once it is rooted, device will reboot. Verify that you are rooted, run SuperSU app.
  6. Now switch off your Xperia Z. OPEN FLASHTOOL.
  7. Now you need to flash “XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.1.A.2.67.ftf” file in order to get back the true kernel of Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware of Xperia Z.
  8. After flashing, disconnect the phone from PC, reboot it and your Xperia Z is now rooted and we are done with Root Xperia Z Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware steps.

In the starting of month August we saw Sony rolling out officially android 4.2.2 jelly bean 10.3.1.A.0.244 update for Xperia ZR C5503 and C5502 version globally but on the other hand Indian Xperia ZR C5502 users didn’t receive this 10.3.1.A.0.244 update on their handsets and they remained on android 4.1.2 10.1.1.A.1.310 firmware. A few days back we reported that 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware is in testing for Xperia Z and may roll out soon but now we have seen this 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware update for Xperia Z and soon expecting it to arrive on Xperia Z, ZL and Tablet Z.

Just a moment ago we spotted Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware update on our Indian Xperia ZR C5502 handset confirming that finally Android 4.2.2 update arrived for Xperia ZR in India. Xperia ZR users who have already this android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware update are also receiving this 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware update being confirmed in Vietnam.

XDA Developer DooMLoRD has just tweeted that all Xperia Z / ZL users who have rooted handset, shouldn’t flash this 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware ftf file directly. They should use OTA ROOT KEEPER, otherwise root will be lost in this new firmware.

How to keep Root in Xperia ZR Android 4.2.2 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware update ?

If you are updating your Xperia ZR directly via Flashtool, everything in (the /system partition) gets formatted completely, so you loose root :/ So update it over OTA to keep root.

Root Access will be lost, if flashing via FlashTool.

Use OTA RootKeeper, if you want to have root access remain to your phone. If you are updating your Xperia ZR by “Update Center” app, then using OTA RootKeeper, you can save your root access.
